On behalf the Anime Kaigi staff, I would like to thank you for your participation at our first-year anime convention! This could not have happened without you!

We are officially planning on having a "next year." In order for us to improve and make our next event even better, we would really appreciate getting your feedback. Please feel free to share comments, suggestions, questions, and any general feedback (negative or positive!) about your experience at Anime Kaigi 2010.

Again, THANK YOU!

Well I have to say that for my first con I was impressed. It was AWESOME! But what impressed me the most was the staff. They were all so very kind, an were all working their butts off to keep everyone entertained, all the while stopping to answer questions with a smile, and pausing for pictures too! Plus lets not forget that they made absolutely sure that everyone got their respective prizes they won. (I sure got mine!) Thanks for putting up with me!

What I would suggest for next year is maybe an art contest??? I know there are a LOT of talented people out there. ;) Another idea would be to prepare for the unexpected heat next year. I understand that Flagstaff is usually a very cool place. My friends said that it was VERY unusual, so hopefully that won't be a problem next year.

Thanks for such a GREAT time!

A location with a working ATM would be very nice. :)

Anime Kaigi was a very nice and relaxing con, despite us staff having to run around a lot. ^^;; Everyone at the front desk was really helpful to us newbie staff, which was really nice, so congratz there! =D

Other than that, I honestly really don't have much to complain about, especially because this con ran so smoothly for it's first run. So, yay for Kaigi! I hope you invite us (CZP) back next year! =D

This was my first convention and it was very fun. There were some parts that could have been organized better (masquerade mostly) but for the most part it was very well put together. Things were easy to find and everyone was very friendly.

Also, this isn't really to do with you guys but I thought I would point out that the nendoroid petite vocaloids sold in the vendor's room were counterfeits www.vocaloidism.com/2010/02/21/counterfe...d-puchi-vocaloid-01/
It should probably be checked into and I don't think the vendors even knew but I bought a bunch only to find them all funny colored and this is why >_<;

But back to the actual convention, the games were fun, the staff was very nice and everything was very enjoyable ^^

This being my 2nd con in Arizona, 3rd con in life, I really enjoyed it for the one day I went (Friday).
(+)airconditioning was good for the unexpected heat that happened.
(+) the handling of the last minute schedule changes was impressive, and professional.
(+) even though the issue with "weapons policy" wasn't clear from the beginning (due to outside interference), was once again was handled with clarity and respectability.
(+) the panels were amazing with the first year AWESOME guests. A definate way to keep me coming back for next year.
(+) the convention location was clear and precise on location which helped directionally challeged cosplayer (me) find it with ease. Plus the food was just a little drive away. :)
(+) the introduciton ceremony videos were amazing, despite the glitches in the presentation. It made it unique and fun! Even though there was a lot of goofs, the con rules were straight forward, and clear.
(-) the registration (for the day passes) could go a bit smoother.
(-) The vendor room was a bit hot, and didn't flow quite right. The vendors were wonderful from those I met and conversed with.

Next year:
- I would love to see more variety of panels.
- different artist/cosplay competitions outside of the masquerade or gaming through out the weekend.
- more gatherings outside of Anime. Now, don't get me wrong, Anime is awesome! But not everyone is aboard the same boat.

As you can see there are very little negatives to the whole experience, but really cant give much based on one day. The people I ran into, harassed <3 & got pictures with are great peeps and I look forward to the next year.

For the vender's room for next year, can the staff make sure the merchandise is genuine? I had bought 3 Vocaloid figurines, and only after the con, did my friend tell me they were fake. Not believing this, I looked online to make sure, and yes, they were counterfeit. I'm not sure if any other figurines/merchandise was fake or not, *this is excluding the artist venders. They sold their own things and don't count for this* but I'd really like to buy $21.00 of genuine anime/manga/game/etc... supplies. Not counterfeit. it's very embarrassing.

Other than that, I was overly impressed with Anime kaigi. it got a little warm, but everything can't be perfect.

I'm also hoping for next year, a lot more panels. I have a couple ideas for some and would be more than willing to run one or more, as well as help the staff!

I really wasn't at the convention for TOO long due to being tired from Phoenix Comicon. Forgive any crankiness due to the face I hadn't recovered one con before I went to another (and did panels at both) I woke up Friday morning not wanting to go ANYWHERE but I made the best of it.

The good
-Flagstaff is BEAUTIFUL! I've never stopped and stayed there before, and I definitely want to come back just for a mini vacation. (and for snowy/foresty cosplay photoshoots!)
-I love the programming guides and badges. We even got special SunaCosu badges!! How cool is that? :) Although, I was surprised that they weren't ready when we arrived, but that was taken care of quickly.
-Staff was easy find when we needed help with our events. (I am so sorry if I wasn't around all the time! but the events still went on at their correct times with no issues)
-The rooms were nice and large! I loved the ballroom and the connected green room - I bet it was great for the masquerade (although I didn't stay to see it)
-KATIE BAIR!! It was nice to be able to talk with her so much at a small con where she wasn't busy. We love Katie to death~~~
-Despite being a small vendor's room, we bought quite a few things! There was some great merchandise and artwork in there. :) I know more artists that want come out, so I hope there is more space for them next year!
-The Quality Inn hotel was AWESOME. Inexpensive, free breakfast and intarwebs, super nice staff, great view, etc.
-We were close to so many restaurants and Target!

Room for improvement
-We did 2 panels at the con. They are very visual panels, and we even show videos, but the projector only worked for about 5 minutes before overheating! We made due with our panels, but it was very disappointing to not have a working projector as promised.
-The lack of proper air conditioning in the building. >.< WOW! It was horrible and part of the reason we did not stick around long or want to be in costume there. The "swamp coolers" or whatever just make it more humid, I think, so it felt gross in there. I'm glad you guys aren't using this location next year but the next place needs proper AC (not sure how common this is up there but it's pretty important for an event like this.) Ah I guess this isn't Flagstaff's usual June weather? Well all the same. It was hot.
-The date...was...horrible...but I know how this happened and you guys already know this and will change it next year. :)

This suggestion may be pointless at this point, but I think this con would have done better to begin as a 1 or 2 day event. It would have been affordable and programming could be fuller. I can only think of a handful of Phoenix-area locals (besides those hosting events, ie, SunaCosu, CZP, the Elevens, etc) that attended and I'm not sure Flagstaff anime fans are a big enough group to support such a big event. But who knows, date change and better promotion might make next year more successful. GOOD LUCK!

For being flagstaff's first con ever I give it a huge thumbs up! most everthing was awesmoe! the one thing that paled in comparison to the other conventions I've been to was the dance, I understand that there was a budget, the music was vary hard to dance to, and there were puases where everone felt awkard. next year I would just die of fun if you got a DJ and more lights =D

Thanks for the wonderful con!

Just to keep this short do you think next year we can get a manga artist? My friends and I had the honor to see Alice McGraw and I wouldn't mind seeing her again ^.^

Overall, a fine convention. Here's some of my feedback:

Positive feedback-
-Well marked building - signs were very clear
-Good program book - maps and spaces for autographs were much appreciated
-Nice location - plenty of places to eat nearby
-Masquerade started on time - that hasn't been my experience at most cons I've attended

Negative feedback-
-No karaoke at this con - that's usually a convention event nowadays
-A few technical difficulties - the microphones and projectors weren't always working
-Heat - parts of the building got rather hot at times

Sig made by Zoroko - you can see her other works here

@ MomoMomone

Could you please expand on what parts of the masquerade could have been better? I'd love to hear feedback on that so that we can work out any kinks for future masquerades. :)

I'm sorry for not being specific about the masquerade ^^; When we entered online, it said you had to be at the rehearsal or you would be disqualified. It never said when or where the rehearsal would be and we had to keep asking around to find out when. It took us until the second day. Only when we went to the cosplay desk to confirm the time(they hadn't known when the day before and it turned out to have been postponed half an hour) did anybody mention that the judging was separate. We were told about this while the judging had already happened. We had to hurry back to the motel, change into our contest cosplays, and then return and ask them to judge us late. They said yes since we hadn't been informed about the judging. We then found out that they had lost our forms and we had to fill out another one. After all of that, though, everything went normally :) So basically, all of the most important information for masquerade contestants was missing from all schedules and sites and it caused us a ton of trouble.

the projector problem really bugged me, theres only two reasons that would have occurred, a dusty filter or hardware issue, either way it SHOULD have been replaced. You should have contacted NAU, its a COLLEGE campus, how are would it have been to get another. that said, i was about whip out a screwdriver or something pop that bitch open to look at the filter, i used to clean those for my school when i was senior and junior.

I do apologize for the confusion on the pre-registration for the masquerade. The pre-registration was done without me being directly involved. I heard what had happened to you, (I remember someone asking me if it was ok for you to come back) and was more than happy to accommodate you. :) The judging schedule was not done by me and seemed a bit wonky in my opinion, but the judges were very wonderful and very flexible since things got behind somehow. They even got lunch an hour and a half later than what was promised to them. The problem with the lost form at the con....I have no idea how this happened. I am very sorry! I saw you through the window, while you were being judged and the judges had their forms on your judging, but for some odd reason I did not have the registration paper you filled out. Since I knew you had registered the only reason at that point that we needed the paper for your registering was solely for the MC's to properly announce you. I am glad you liked the rest of the masquerade and I hoped you liked the half time show with the "Twin's Twisted Tales" since I was unable to watch it due to helping the judges organize prizes and such. :D

It was fine. Despite being a hassle, I was just happy that we were still judged and able to participate ^-^
